Mason Space Day is an exciting, collaborative, and engaging event, with an aim to educate the public on the technology and science behind some of the leading aerospace projects in the area. The day offers lectures from those at the forefront of space exploration and a number of organizations with hands-on space-related activities, educational information, and more.

tarlight Lost: Understanding Light Pollution and Its Impact in Our Lives

Discover why protecting our night skies is important.  Light pollution, the human made excessive or misdirected artificial light that brightens the night sky, is a growing environmental concern with profound implications. This talk will explore what light pollution is, including its various forms—such as skyglow, glare, and light trespass—and how it diminishes our ability to view stars and celestial events. Beyond its impact on our night sky, light pollution affects human health, wildlife behavior, and energy consumption. 

We will discuss ongoing efforts to mitigate its effects. The presentation will highlight the importance of collective action in preserving the natural night environment for future generations.  Learn what you can do now to stop light pollution.
